Recent decades have seen the (re-) emergence of arthropod-borne viruses (arboviruses) causing annual outbreaks in regions of Europe. The aim of the course is to improve the participant’s knowledge of identification, diagnostics and clinical management of arbovirus infections, and outbreak control at local, national and international level. Course topics will include a review of endemic and travel-imported arboviruses of clinical importance to Europe. This will include an overview of symptomatology, sampling, diagnostics and interpretation of laboratory results, prevention and clinical management. The course will also include a One Health approach overview of European and global organizations, including laboratories and clinical networks involved in surveillance, prevention and outbreak response. The course will be delivered by a range of European experts on arboviruses, through a dynamic mix of presentations and interactive sessions, including clinical and microbiology case scenarios and a European, table-top outbreak response exercises. The workshop is part of the EU-funded PREPARE partnership's mission to strengthen clinical preparedness to (re-) emerging infections with epidemic potential in Europe.
